Brussels, December 14 (MTI) - Hungary has successfully asserted its interests concerning the European Union s planned banking union at an EU summit in Brussels, Prime Minister Viktor Orban told a press conference after the summit on Friday.

Hungary is not being pressed for a decision; the country can decide at any time whether it wishes to join the community s planned system of central banking supervision, Orban said.

The prime minister said that the summit s conclusions had met Hungary s expectations, namely that the banking union should not involve competitive drawbacks for the country, that joining the union should not be made mandatory for countries outside the euro zone, or that newcomers should not be considered as second-class members in the banking union.
