Proposal to extend Hungary moratorium on farmland purchases by foreigners before Commission
<p>Budapest, December 9 (MTI) - The Internal Market and Services Directorate General (DG MARKT) has made a written proposal to the European Commission to approve a request by Hungary to extend its moratorium on purchases of farmland by foreigners for another three years until 2014, MTI learnt on Thursday.</p>
The Commission has not officially decided on whether to accept Hungary s request on extending the moratorium, a spokesman for the body told MTI.
The website of a regional television broadcaster in Hungary said on Wednesday that an extension of the moratorium had already been decided on by the Commission, citing sources in the farm ministry.
