Budapest, August 15 (MTI) - The ruling conservative Fidesz-Christian-Democratic alliance maintained a firm lead against the opposition parties in August, with radical nationalist Jobbik in second place, according to a poll by the Nezopont Institute, which also found that most voters rejected the government s proposal to introduce voter registration.

In the poll to be published by political weekly Heti Valasz, 30 percent of respondents backed Fidesz and 13 percent Jobbik in the whole sample. The former governing Socialist party had the support of 10 percent while LMP, the party which highlights green issues, scored 6 percent, just above the 5 percent threshold for a parliamentary mandate. The leftist Democratic Coalition fell below this level by 2 percentage points.

On the question of whether voters should be required to register in order to cast ballots, 70 percent of the sample indicated a preference to keep the current system which allows all eligible voters into booths.
