Orban says talks with IMF to start within days, USD 4-5bn would be sufficient

Paris, December 8 (MTI) - Talks with the International Monetary Fund will start about a discretional credit line within the next few days, Prime Minister Viktor Orban told French economic daily Les Echos in an online interview published on Thursday.

Paris, December 8 (MTI) - Talks with the International Monetary Fund will start about a discretional credit line within the next few days, Prime Minister Viktor Orban told French economic daily Les Echos in an online interview published on Thursday.

Orban said "4-5 billion dollars would be sufficient" because Hungary has always been able to get financing from the markets, even in 2010 when it closed its relations with the IMF.

The weakening of the forint is attributable to the fact that European banks facing difficulties are withdrawing liquid capital from Hungary and this reduction in financing has an effect on the economy. As a result, the 2012 growth projections will most probably need to be amended below the 1.5 percent projected in September, Orban said.
