Hungarian president continues lobbying for UN SC membership in NY

New York, September 23 (MTI) - Hungarian President Pal Schmitt continued to hold bilateral talks with heads of state and government on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly Session in New York on Thursday evening local time, lobbying for Hungary s 2012-2013 UN Security Council non-permanent membership.

New York, September 23 (MTI) - Hungarian President Pal Schmitt continued to hold bilateral talks with heads of state and government on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly Session in New York on Thursday evening local time, lobbying for Hungary s 2012-2013 UN Security Council non-permanent membership.

At talks with Navinchandra Ramgoolam, the prime minister of Mauritius, Schmitt offered Hungary s cooperation in tackling that country s water management problems, in installing cancer screening technologies and in training in tourism.

 

Meeting the president of Nauru, Schmitt expressed to Marcus Stephen Hungary s dedication to fighting the negative effects of climate change. He offered cooperation in tackling diabetes in Nauru where 40 percent of the population suffer from that disease.

 

Schmitt s talks with Alpha Conde, the president of Guinea, focused on the representation of African countries in the UN Security Council. The Hungarian president emphasised Hungary s readiness to cooperate with African countries in tackling the major challenges that face the continent.
