Budapest, September 15 (MTI) - Graduates who get a job in Hungary get their degree free of charge while those heading abroad will have to pay for it, according to a draft of the new higher-education bill approved by the government on Wednesday, Magyar Nemzet daily said on Thursday.

Prospective undergraduates will be asked to sign a contract with the state that in exchange for free tuition they will work in Hungary an as yet unspecified period after they graduate, otherwise they must pay back the cost of their studies if they get a job abroad, said education deputy state secretary Laszlo Dux.

He said the planned provision would depend on the area of study or the type of work carried out outside Hungary and could be subject to change. At the same time, he said the idea was not to block graduates from gaining experience or furthering their education in a foreign country.

The draft will probably raise the limit of students with access to state-funded education in engineering, natural science and IT.
