Sludge flood - Court releases alumina plant head

According to the court, at this early stage of the investigation, a suspicion of criminal intent cannot be formed, attorney Janos Banati said.

    Bakonyi was detained two days ago, after a reservoir of his company burst and flooded Devecser town and neighbouring villages with toxic sludge last Monday. He was suspected of causing public hazard which claimed the lives of nine people and causing harm to the environment.

    The government suspended operations of Bakonyi s company following the disaster and appointed a commissioner to supervise the firm.
