Women entitled to early retirement after 40 years in work

Budapest, November 11 (MTI) – Effective from 2011, women in Hungary will be entitled to early retirement if they have spent at least 40 years in work, the government spokeswoman said on Thursday.

Maternity leave, up to eight years, will count as time spent in work but it will exclude the period spent in vocational or higher education, said Anna Nagy.

The main opposition Socialist Party welcomed the government decision but proposed that it should also apply to men, spokesman Zsolt Torok said. At the same time, he  criticised the government for not including time spent in education in the 40 years.
