Parl c ttee proposes easing severance-pay tax for 20-plus years of service
<p>Budapest, July 7 (MTI) - Parliament s economic committee proposed on Wednesday that the threshold for the Fidesz-initiated 98 percent tax on severance payments in the public sector should be raised from the originally planned 2 million forints (EUR 7,000) to 3.4 million forints for employees who have had their jobs for at least 20 years.</p>
The proposal was made in response to a letter by the Democratic Trade Union of Teachers (PDSZ), which said that levying the tax on long-time public employees with small incomes would not be fair.
The ruling Fidesz party announced plans for the new tax last week, but MP Antal Rogan said on Tuesday that his party was open to reconsider some of its aspects and possibly raising the 2 million forint threshold.
