Trade unions to protest against govt measures

Budapest, November 25 (MTI) – Several trade union federations will stage a demonstration in Budapest on Saturday next week if negotiations with the government fail, said a statement by the joint committee of unions sent to MTI on Thursday.

According to the document, most of the centre-right government’s new laws and bills submitted to parliament “violate legal security and endanger the interests of employees.”

The unions protest that the 2011 budget bill would “result in reduced real wages for a large part of employees.” “These measures weigh on employees with small wages, while the illegal economy continues to flourish,” the statement added.

The committee also protests that “the government seeks to divert savings in private pension funds” and that “politicians create an atmosphere against public sector employees.”
