Budapest, November 24 (MTI) - The government has asked the National Security Office and the National Security Service for assistance in finding out who is behind possible speculative attacks on the forint, government spokesman Andras Giro-Szasz said on Thursday.

It has become clear to the government that speculative attacks took place or may have taken place from the events of the past weeks, Giro-Szasz said.

The large scale of foreign currency-denominated debt in Hungary makes the forint especially vulnerable to outside intervention, he said. The government must take steps not only to protect the forint from speculative attacks but to discover the parties behind those moves, he added.

Hungary s forint weakened to an all-time low against the euro on 14 November.
