The EVA rate was bumped up to 37 percent from 30 percent — though the cap on revenues for companies eligible to pay tax also rose to 30 million forints (EUR 96,000) a year from 25 million — as part of the 2012 tax law enacted late in November.
Citing figures by the National Tax and Customs Office (NAV), Magyar Nemzet said that a total of 13,000 business had declared their intention to opt out of EVA next year by the December 20 deadline.
Only 1,830 businesses have signed up to EVA for next year, which means altogether 83,000 businesses will pay the tax, the paper said.
