Roma business association building HUF 1bn rabbit meat plant with partners

Budapest, September 24, 2010 (MTI-ECONEWS) – Roma business association Verosz on Friday laid the cornerstone of a HUF 1bn rabbit meat processing plant in Sonkad (NE Hungary) it is building with two foreign investors.

The plant will turn out an annual 1,500 tonnes of rabbit meat.

    Verosz and its partners plan to spend a further HUF 7bn to build a slaughterhouse, feed plant and five rabbit farms in surrounding villages and towns.

    Including suppliers, the project is expected to create work for 2,500 people.

    About 200 small companies raise rabbits in the region, exporting an annual 6,000 tonnes of rabbit meat to Russia. They plan to export 1,500 tonnes of processed meat to Western Europe.
