Gagarin bust unveiled in Hungarian cosmonaut s native village

Budapest, November 5 (MTI) - The bust of Yuri Gagarin, the first man in outer space, has been inaugurated in Gyulahaza, the native village of Hungary s first cosmonaut Bertalan Farkas in northeastern Hungary, regional daily Kelet-Magyarorszag said.

Budapest, November 5 (MTI) - The bust of Yuri Gagarin, the first man in outer space, has been inaugurated in Gyulahaza, the native village of Hungary s first cosmonaut Bertalan Farkas in northeastern Hungary, regional daily Kelet-Magyarorszag said.

The bust is dedicated to Gagarin s epic journey on April 12, 1961. The Soviet cosmonaut, flying on board Vostok-1, completed an orbit of the Earth in 108 minutes.

 

The unveiling ceremony was attended by Hungarian and Russian government officials as well as representatives of scientific and social organisations.

 

The bust was donated by the Russian government, the Academy of Sciences and space foundations.

 

The ceremony was addressed by Farkas, his companion in space Valery Kubasov, and Soyuz-7 cosmonaut Viktor Gorbatko, the paper said.
