Police presence in Gyongyospata extended till Monday

Budapest, April 30 (MTI) - Police presence has been extended in the tension-ridden north Hungarian village of Gyongyospata until May 2, the local county police told MTI on Saturday.

The heightened presence will involve more frequent checks on passing traffic, including car and body searches where necessary, a spokesperson said.

Tensions have been riding high in the village since a radical group set up a paramilitary training camp organised near the Roma neighbourhood over the Easter holidays. Nearly 300 Roma women and children were bused out of the village for that weekend, but have since then returned. Some 100 Roma were again seen leaving the town on Wednesday.
