Ninety-eight percent of goals attained, says Hungarian PM

Brussels, June 23 (MTI) – The Hungarian EU presidency has attained 98 percent of the objectives it set, the Hungarian prime minister said in Brussels on Thursday.

Speaking to journalists upon arrival to attend the summit of EU heads of state and government Viktor Orban said that the Hungarian presidency had also made great and spectacular achievements.

He said one of those is the completion of accession talks with Croatia, which would be announced at the summit that started in Brussels on Thursday.

Another issue he noted was economic governance which the Hungarian presidency had brought 99 percent close to a breakthrough.

Orban said that for the first time in its history the EU had also worked out a Roma framework strategy.

“I think we have made successful efforts to win respect for Hungary,” the Hungarian prime minister said, adding that opinion abroad had positively changed towards the country after the previous two-three years.
