New public media heads elected

Budapest, November 18 (MTI) – The board of the new Public Media Foundation elected on Thursday new general directors for Hungary’s four public media.

The board elected Csaba Belenessy general director of the national news agency, MTI. Balazs Medveczky will head Hungarian Television, Istvan Jonas Hungarian Radio, and Szilveszter Okovacs Duna Television, board chairman Laszlo Balogh said.  

    Belenessy has been vice-president of MTI since January 2008. Earlier he filled senior editorial positions with Hungarian Television. He was vice-president of Duna TV in 2004-2005, and was founder and editor-in-chief of commercial Lanchid Radio.

    Medveczky has worked for Hungarian Television since 1988. He has filled senior management positions since 2002; he was appointed acting vice-president in March 2008.

    Jonas worked for Hungarian Radio between 1982-2007. In 2007 he was appointed deputy editor-in-chief, then acting head of Lanchid Radio.

    Okovacs, an opera singer and music teacher by profession, has been a programme host and editor for news television channel HirTV since its foundation in 2002.
