Hungary police confirm arrest of int’l drug gang

Budapest, September 9 (MTI) – Budapest police on Thursday confirmed that the Hungarian and Austrian police forces had mopped up an international gang of drug dealers.

On June 12, the Hungarian authorities launched an investigation against a woman identified only as Rebeka K., who is suspected of having imported three kilograms of heroin to Hungary, police told MTI.

    Relying on information from their Austrian colleagues, Budapest police started procedures against O. R. Victor, a Nigerian citizen who is suspected of having recruited Hungarian drug mules to carry shipments to various destinations in Europe.      

    Austrian police announced last Friday that several  members of a Budapest-based international drug distribution gang had been arrested in Budapest and Vienna.

    Altogether six people were arrested and 20 kilos of heroin worth an estimated two million euros seized.

    According to the Austrian announcement, three people were detained in Budapest, including the suspected head of the gang, and three others in Vienna.

    The two police forces have cooperated in investigating the case for several months.
