Hungary committed to strong fiscal system, deficit below 3pc of GDP – conference

Budapest, February 25 (MTI) – Hungary is committed to reinforcing its fiscal system and to deliver a budget deficit of below 3 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) for the first time this year, the chairman of parliament’s budget committee told a conference in parliament on Friday.

Laszlo Nyikos said that economic governance and macro-level fiscal planning must be strengthened in the European Union, noting that debts in member states have reached unsustainable levels.

Zsolt Becsey, the state secretary at the Economy Ministry, said the EU’s new financial perspective beyond 2013 must focus on raising competitiveness and employment.

”The aim is to make Europe strong and competitive,” Becsey said.
