HR minister expresses support to Hungarian Roma in W Romania

Oradea, May 25 (MTI) – Hungary’s newly appointed human resources minister Zoltan Balog said there was not a single issue in Hungarian policymaking which was exclusively a domestic matter and which did not affect in some way ethnic Hungarians in neighbouring Romania, including Roma members of the community.

Addressing a press conference in Oradea (Nagyvarad) on Friday, Balog offered Hungarian government support to the local bilingual school where ethnic Hungarian Roma children are enrolled.

MEP Laszlo Tokes, who is also a founding member of the Christian-conservative Hungarian National People’s Party of Transylvania (EMNP), told the press conference that the town’s other projects to which the Hungarian government’s support would be key included setting up a cultural-educational centre run by the church and the Romology department of the local Partium Christian University.

Balog said that the use of EU funding should be considered for such projects, adding that the Romanian government should also contribute, as Hungary, too, supports Romanian minority education at home.
