Fighting terrorism national cause, says defence minister

Budapest, September 15 (MTI) – Fighting terrorism is among Hungary’s national interests, Defence Minister Csaba Hende said at a farewell ceremony of Hungarian troops leaving for Afghanistan on Wednesday.

Hungary contributes to reconstruction in Afghanistan to promote stability, leaving no room for terrorism, the minister said. “We are jointly responsible for our shared security,” Hende added.

From October 1, Hungary will be in charge of the international airport of Kabul for six months, a position filled by the country for the second time. Hungary’s brigadier general Nandor Kilian has been appointed airport commander for the term.
