Budapest, March 7 (MTI) - Opposition parties adopted a statement at a meeting on Thursday in which they called for adoption of a new constitution based on nationwide consensus as well as "quick, legitimate restoration of constitutional values and democracy".
The meeting was attended by nine left-wing organisations, including the Socialist Party, electoral movement Together 2014, the Hungarian Social Democratic Party and other groups.
At a press conference, Socialist lawmaker Gergely Barandy referred to the Council of Europe s recent objections against Hungary s planned fourth amendment to the constitution, expected to be adopted on Monday, and voiced regret that the government was "making Hungary subject to international humiliation".
Barandy did not wish to comment on the events unfolded at the Fidesz party headquarters on Thursday where a number of protesters broke through the gates.
