Energy price talks under way between gov’t, market participants

Budapest, September 11 (MTI) – Intensive and constructive talks are under way on law amendments governing electricity and gas supplies, which also determine how government and market participants set energy prices, market sources told MTI on Saturday.

The Ministry of National Development declined to reveal details.

Head of the Hungarian Energy Office Peter Horvath earlier told the press that a new price calculation system would be worked out in September and the government would discuss the amendment on October 6.

Currently there is a moratorium on raising gas and electricity prices for retail and small business consumers. This was introduced in June in order to prevent price increases until an agreement was reached on calculating prices.
